ROCHESTER, NY – At least a dozen law enforcement officers were working an investigation on Park Avenue Friday night.

It was happening at Somerset and Park, which runs between Berkeley Street and Culver Road.

A witness told News10NBC that a man ran into a store pursued by police and began biting the officers, trying to defend them. Our news team watched as a handcuffed man was placed on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance.

Rochester police reported they located a recently reported stolen vehicle on Park Avenue near Berkeley Street around 5:55 p.m. and pursued the suspect, taking him into custody “after a brief use of force.” Police say the suspect, a 29-year-old man from Rochester, bit two of the officers. The suspect was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. One of the agents was also treated.

The witness, named Louie, told News10NBC he was getting a haircut when the suspect ran into the barbershop, threw a bag on the floor and hid under the window. Louie says the suspect knocked things off shelves and bit the officers’ hands hard. That’s when he said he intervened and grabbed him to try to help the officers.

In addition to the stolen vehicle charges, the suspect will be charged with assaulting officers, in addition to having several outstanding warrants, police said.
