Viking RCMP are on the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision involving a truck transporting crude oil.

In a news release sent out at 11:21 a.m. Saturday, police said the truck was traveling on Highway 619 when it hit the shoulder of the road, slid into a ditch and caught fire.

The driver suffered minor injuries.

There were no other vehicles involved.

Highway 619 was expected to remain closed for several hours. Police asked the public to avoid the area at this time.

Viking is about 125 kilometers southeast of Edmonton.
