A man was seriously injured after being “attacked with weapons” following what police believe was a car chase and subsequent crash.

Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to a tram stop on Edge Lane, Droylsden, at around 20:10 GMT on Friday.

Police said initial investigations suggested two cars were seen speeding towards Manchester, “in what is believed to have been a chase”.

“A car subsequently crashed and a man inside was attacked,” police added.

No arrests have been made and the man remains in hospital.

Detective Anna Barker said: “We are currently investigating the full circumstances of last night’s violent incident.”

He said “several agents” participated in the investigation.

“While one man suffered serious injuries, we are fortunate that we are not talking about an even more serious outcome and we are determined to track down those responsible,” he added.
