Bronny James gets love for Lakers cameo after Toronto crowd chants his name

Ask and ye shall receive with Bronny James.

Fans at the Lakers-Raptors game at Scotia Bank Arena did what they wanted loud and clear to everyone in attendance on Friday: They broke into loud chants of “Bronny!” As Austin Reaves lined up for a pair of free throws with Los Angeles comfortably ahead in the final minute.

Lakers coach JJ Redick gave the fans exactly what they wanted, shouting James’ name in the final seconds.

A foul by the Lakers allowed the rookie to enter the game with just 7.1 seconds left to the roar of the crowd.

James, who has appeared in three games this season, did nothing notable in the short time he was around as the Lakers won 131-125 to move to 4-2 on the young season.

However, he had a big moment Wednesday night in the Lakers’ victory over his father LeBron’s former team in the Cavaliers.

Bronny James scored first points of the regular season of his NBA career with a mid-range shot.

The Cleveland crowd, which watched LeBron James play there for 11 seasons and win the 2015-16 NBA championship, erupted when the bucket was sunk.

“It was crazy,” Bronny James said. “Much more than I expected, for sure. Everything is love. It was a nice moment. The chants really got me. “I was serious, but I felt it and I felt pretty good, especially coming from here.”

Bronny and LeBron became the first father-son duo to play in an NBA game together on October 23 against the Timberwolves.

The young James, 20 years old, who played only one season at USC, is considered a development project by the Lakers.

The plan is for him to move back and forth between the Lakers’ active roster and the G League, which opens its season on Nov. 8.
