Penn Yan man faces child endangerment charges, plus others, after violent incident

A Penn Yan man faces multiple charges, including endangering the welfare of a child, following a domestic dispute in the Town of Potter.

Jacob A. Thornton, 27, was arrested Nov. 1 after Yates County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call on Havens Corners Road.

Thornton is charged with second-degree criminal mischief, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, second-degree harassment and endangering the welfare of a child. Authorities allege Thornton had physical contact with another individual in the presence of a child and damaged property that did not belong to him.

Deputy Lane and Sgt. Chisom of the Yates County Sheriff’s Office led the response, with assistance from the Penn Yan Police Department and the New York State Police. Following his arrest, Thornton was transported to the Yates County Jail where he awaits a hearing in Yates County CAP Court.
