A Bath man faces felony assault charges after allegedly attacking a stranger at a grocery store over a “Trump 2024” hat, police said Friday. The altercation reportedly began when the man confronted the victim about her political clothing, and led to a violent exchange.

Police identified the suspect as Robert Yott, 60, accused of punching the victim several times in the mouth and head. The attack left the victim with broken teeth and a bloody mouth, authorities said.

Yott was arrested and charged with felony assault and misdemeanor criminal mischief. He is being held in the Steuben County Jail awaiting arraignment.
