MAFAC exhibition combines exteriors and digital photography | News, sports, jobs

MARSHALL – Nicole Zempel enjoys the outdoors and digital photography, so she combined them in a way that resulted in art exhibits.

Zempel is the current exhibit at the Marshall Area Fine Arts Council gallery on North 3rd Street in downtown Marshall. Their exhibit includes a variety of nature photographs, from landscapes to fungal spores.

He said he bases each exhibit on what shows a variety of natural themes. They may or may not be subjects that are likely to be purchased.

“I don’t base my displays on what is likely to sell,” Zempel said. “I plan it in a way that shows the variety that can be found in natural environments. “I’ll include things like tree lichens and snails that people probably wouldn’t put on their walls.”

He always includes photographs of fungal spores, as they have been popular with gallery visitors. He became interested in them because of his enthusiasm for edible wild plants.

He hopes that viewing his digital photographs will spark interest in outdoor activities, in a way that will lead people to experience them in their free time.

“I just want people to want to get out and explore.” she said. “They should look for surprises. “Nature will surprise you if you take the time.”

Zempel was recommended to MAFAC by Southwest Minnesota Arts Council Marketing and Access Coordinator Krystl Louwagie. He previously exhibited at the SMAC gallery. His exhibition at MAFAC will be open until November 8.

“I am very grateful to Krystl and MAFAC” Zempel said. “The exhibition became a good opportunity. “It allows me to expand and reach more people.”
