HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -The Arts Council of the Valley held its ninth annual Artist Member Exhibition, showcasing the work of 49 local artists. The show was part of the council’s ‘First Fridays in the Valley’ event in November, which featured local artists and musicians at various venues in Harrisonburg and Bridgewater.

Jenny Burden, executive director of the Arts Council of the Valley, said the arts scene in Friendly City has grown significantly over the years.

“At our first show, which was for member artists, we had seven artists, and that was nine years ago,” Burden said. “That’s how the art scene here in Harrisonburg has grown over these last nine years. “It’s pretty impressive.”

The First Fridays event featured several exhibits and live performances. At each participating location there was a red balloon outside.
