Man shot son-in-law’s roommate during fight

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) arrested a man in connection with a shooting that occurred on Thursday, October 31.

Around 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, EPSO received multiple reports of a shooting in the 200 block of Cunningham Drive, in the Security area.

When they arrived, officers ordered shelter-in-place for nearby neighbors and secured the scene. Officers found two men with non-life-threatening injuries and they were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

EPSO determined that the incident was due to a disturbance that occurred the night before. Everyone involved knew each other. EPSO said the suspect, Gary Spicer, 77, confronted his son-in-law, sparking a verbal fight.

The son-in-law’s roommate intervened and the son-in-law left the area. Another fight then ensued between the roommate and Spicer, during which the 77-year-old man fired his gun. EPSO said Spicer was disarmed and subdued until authorities arrived.

Spicer faces charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and menacing. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail after being treated at the hospital. The roommate was also released from the hospital the same day.

The Sheriff’s Office said this is an active investigation. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at (719) 520-7777.
