King removes Andrew’s £1m annual ‘subsistence allowance’

The king is reportedly cutting financial ties with the disgraced Duke of York.

Charles has withdrawn Andrew’s £1 million annual “subsistence allowance”, according to the serialization of a new book by royal writer Robert Hardman published in the Daily Mail.

The move will be seen as another step the King has taken to publicly distance himself from his younger brother following his association with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Hardman writes in his forthcoming book that the keeper of the private purse was “instructed to cut his subsistence allowance” after Andrew reportedly refused to move from the Royal Lodge, a 30-room mansion in Windsor Great Park, to the nearby and smaller Frogmore. Cabin.

The duke was said to have signed a 75 lease on the Royal Lodge in 2003.

Citing an insider source, Hardman writes: “’The duke is no longer a financial burden to the king,’ confirms someone familiar with the situation.

“’He claims to have found other sources of income related to his contacts in international trade, sufficient to cover all his costs, which would be a welcome outcome for all parties if that were the case.

“‘But whether this funding can be relied upon in the long term is another question.'”

This comes after The Sun reported on Sunday in August that the King was removing Andrew’s security at the Royal Lodge, which had been privately funded by Charles after his brother lost publicly funded police protection in 2022.

In July, palace officials confirmed that Frogmore Cottage, the former home of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, remained empty more than a year after they officially vacated the property.

Pressure on Andrew increased earlier this year after hundreds of pages of court documents related to the Epstein scandal were revealed detailing how the financier’s former housekeeper, Juan Alessi, claimed the duke received daily massages when he passed “weeks” in the pedophile’s house in Florida.

Court documents also resurfaced earlier allegations that Andrew sexually assaulted Virginia Giuffre three times when she was 17, including during an orgy.

He has strongly denied the allegations, saying he never met her, and in 2022 paid millions to Ms. Giuffre to settle a civil case out of court.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
