EndBadGovernance: Northern groups call on President Tinubu to intervene in the prosecution of minors

A coalition of northern youth groups has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene in the prosecution, detention and prosecution of minors protesting against the #EndBadGovernance campaign across the country.

He described the actions as inhumane and condescending.

Founder of Yan-Almajiri Endowment Initiative and Chairman of BoT, Coalition of Northern Youth Groups, Yahaya Mohammed Usman, made this call in a statement in Minna.

Usman denounced the mistreatment and the traumatic state in which the minors were seen, insisting: “they look very sick and are writhing in pain on the floor of the court.”

Recall that on Friday the federal government prosecuted 76 of the minors who appeared malnourished and four of them were rushed out of the courtroom because they could not stand.

Previously, in August 2024, the Coalition had called on federal and state governments to grant amnesty to arrested protesters across the country to prevent further waste of scarce resources.

The Group also urged President Tinubu and the governors of the northern states to establish an endowment of N250 billion for technical and vocational training in all Islamiyya schools in northern Nigeria to help them rehabilitate and reintegrate.

Usman further said that “this call has become necessary in view of the fact that most of those arrested are poor children of ALMAJIRI or uneducated, unskilled and unemployed citizens, all of whom are minors.

“We call for an urgent endowment fund for skill development and education of all minors in Nigeria – this has become necessary considering the economic situation is difficult for ordinary citizens.”
