Drinking water advisory issued for Thurston County water system after sample showed high levels of nitrate

THURSTON COUNTY, Neb. (KTIV) – A water advisory was issued Thursday night for some people in Thurston County, Nebraska.

One sample, which was collected last week, showed nitrates at levels above the maximum containment level in the Village of Pender’s water system.

An advisory was also issued to Thurston Rural Water System customers. This notice says that adults and children over 6 months old can drink tap water. However, a spokesperson for Papio Missouri River Natural Resources says no one should drink tap water until further notice. The spokesperson also warned that boiling water will not remove nitrates.

Those who need water can get it at the Village of Pender office at 614 Main Street.
