MONTGOMERY, Alabama (WSFA) – In the last days of the campaign, candidates in Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District are making final efforts to sway voters to their side.

on tuesday general elections It will be the first since District 2 was redrawn.

In the shadow of the Rosa Parks statue, Shomari Democratic figures rallied their supporters in Montgomery, just days before Election Day.

“This race is an opportunity for us, as a town, as a community, as a new district, to continue to build on that progress of achieving equitable representation for African Americans across this state,” Figures said.

U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries joined Figures in Montgomery for three campaign events. He said the numbers will put people before politics.

“And fight for the things that matter, to ensure that there is an economy that works for every person in the district that they will represent in the United States House of Representatives,” Jeffries said.

Figures, who worked in the Obama White House, faces Republican Caroleene Dobson, a real estate lawyer and political newcomer.

DISTRICT 2 DEBATES

“I’ve been going around the district, and whether you’re here in Montgomery, in Mobile or all the rural counties in between, people are ready for change,” Dobson said.

Dobson says if elected, she will stand up for families.

“We have the best people in the world. We have incredible resources, but we need to stop inflation. “We need to make our communities safer,” he said.

District 2 includes Montgomery, most of Mobile, and encompasses all or part of 13 counties from the Georgia line to the Mississippi line.

Both Dobson and Figures say they have big plans to improve District 2, but first they have to win the race.
