SEC rooting guide for Texas Longhorns during bye week

He Texas Longhorns They sit at 3-1 in SEC play heading into their final bye week of the season. The two teams currently ahead of them are the Georgia Bulldogs at 4-1 and the emerging Texas A&M Aggies, who are the only undefeated team left in the conference at 5-0.

And breathing down Texas’ neck are the Tennessee Volunteers and LSU Tigers, who are 3-1 but currently lose the scoring margin tiebreaker to the Longhorns.

So what needs to happen for Texas to have the best chance of being one of the bottom two in the SEC in Atlanta for the SEC Championship? We’ll go over the perfect scenario for Texas fans during their bye week.

At the beginning of the season, Ole Miss was viewed as a top threat in the SEC to make the championship game. After losing to Kentucky and LSU, they are now on the outside looking 2-2 while Arkansas is at 3-2.

For Texas, either scenario can work in this game, but Texas would prefer Arkansas to win this game for resume purposes, not just to get to the SEC championship. Arkansas is a future opponent and looks to potentially qualify with a win against Ole Miss.

Texas has very few strong wins, and I’m by no means saying this is a guarantee that Texas will beat Arkansas on November 16, but it gives the Longhorns a chance for another quality win in a thin schedule to find them.

Arkansas has little to no chance of finishing 6-2 to finish its SEC play with the game against Ole Miss, Texas, and a road game against Missouri. But Ole Miss also has to play Georgia in Oxford later this season. Both teams will have a hard time catching Texas in the standings, but an Arkansas win here would help Texas greatly with its resume and could eliminate both Ole Miss and Arkansas from their SEC championship race.

This one is much easier for Texas fans. Since Vanderbilt is seen as their best win right now, it would help Vanderbilt win as much as possible. This game has little to no significance to Texas winning the SEC Championship with Vandy at 2-2 and Auburn at 1-4. Vanderbilt has Tennessee and still has a trip to Death Valley against LSU, they won’t give Texas any worries with a win against Auburn.

It’s pretty obvious that Texas would love to see the Gators get the win here. Georgia is rated as a 14.5-point favorite to win and ESPN puts its probability of victory at 79.8%. If Georgia were to lose, Texas would be second in the SEC standings. Florida It is 2-2 and plays Texas, LSU and Ole Miss in addition to Georgia.

Since Florida has no chance, it would be amazing to see them defeat Georgia. But Georgia still has Tennessee and Ole Miss on their schedule, meaning they’ll have other chances to lose if they don’t do it on Saturday.

The Lone Star Showdown at Kyle Field on Nov. 30 could have huge implications for who plays in the SEC championship game. But for now, Texas needs A&M to lose as much as possible. South Carolina has a tough environment and destroyed Oklahoma and nearly beat Alabama on the road in its last two games. With South Carolina sitting at 2-3, it would help them a lot to get a win against Texas A&M and take some anxiety away from Texas fans.

If Texas A&M were to lose this game, they would move to 5-1 and will most likely be 6-1 when they play Texas. If the Longhorns also go 6-1 (meaning they remain undefeated for the rest of the season), there’s a good chance whoever the winner is will travel to Atlanta.

Tennessee is a -17.5 favorite to beat the Wildcats on Saturday to anyone’s surprise. Kentucky winning would obviously be the best case scenario for Texas. But if Tennessee moves to 4-1 after this game and sits in third place over the Longhorns, have no fear. Tennessee still needs to play Georgia in Athens, but that’s it.

However, this would be Kentucky’s second road win against a top-ten opponent if they win, which should raise some alarms for Texas, who will face them at DKR later this year. If Kentucky wins, this would almost put Tennessee out of the game. They would need to be perfect for the rest of the season to have a chance.

Texas needs to do perfectly in theory as well to win the championship right now. The remaining schedule is a home game against Florida, a road game against Arkansas, a home game against Kentucky and then a road game against Texas A&M.

Only time will tell who will emerge victorious in the SEC, but Texas can do nothing but watch the games unfold this weekend. But in the meantime, you can follow this “rooting guide” to see what the best scenario will be for you going into next week.
