Three convicted of murdering father at youth soccer practice in New Jersey

Three men have been sentenced in the murder of a father in 2018 at a youth soccer practice in South Jersey.

Eugene Cosby, 48, of Malaga, Will El-Bey, 28, of Vineland, and Clifton Bailey, 33, of Camden, were found guilty by a jury on charges of murder and other crimes related to the shooting fatal, Cumberland County reported. said the Prosecutor’s Office.

The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. on August 9, 2018 at Lakeside High School in Millville. The victim, Joseph Jones, 37, was shot by masked gunman 10 times in the school parking lot as practice ended, officials said.

In announcing the jury’s decision Thursday, the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office did not specify who the masked gunman was.

Parents and children witnessed the shooting as they walked back to their cars from the field, prosecutors said.

After the shooting, Cosby and Bailey abandoned the vehicles that were used in the crime, authorities said. Cosby and El-Bey too conspired with others to provide false information to investigators, prosecutors said.

It took investigators about three months to identify and arrest the three men.

Evidence uncovered during the investigation included phone conversations and text messages about the murder conspiracy and a Glock 9mm pistol found during a search of El-Bey’s home that was believed to have been used in the shooting.

All will be sentenced on January 10.
