City Hall was scary today.

City Hall was scary today.

Okay, City Hall might be scary every day, but 1500 Marilla was especially scary today because it’s Halloween, which means it’s time for the Mayor’s Monster Mash. It’s the annual party where city employees and council members dress up (well, some of them) and get together to explain their costumes, which may be obvious and expected (side-eyeing District 6 councilman and superfan of Star Wars Omar Narváez) and sometimes extremely Related to the Dallas City Hall.

That would be the approach taken by Council members Chad West and Gay Donnell Willis. They dressed up as “Scavenger Fates, like the boxes in the garden,” Willis told me after the event. If the City Council is not followed closely, that could prove to be an enigma. However, A couple of months ago, the Council questioned a $200,000 expenditure to create garden box kits for up to 1,000 homes. The kits cost between $106 and $181 each and would be intended for residents experiencing food insecurity. The council struggled with the cost (it was using some remaining federal funds from the American Rescue Plan Act) and the fact that the city’s recommended supplier for the project was a real estate company.

Hopefully this will hold us over until the time comes. ugly christmas sweaters.
