Man points knife at security officers at Abbotsford store, police say

The incident occurs on October 28 at the Sevenoaks shopping center store.

A man who allegedly pulled a knife on store security on Monday (Oct. 28) in Abbotsford has been charged.

Sergeant. Abbotsford Police Department media officer Paul Walker said the incident took place around 8:15 p.m. at a store in the Sevenoaks shopping center.

He said security officers saw a man wearing a balaclava enter the store and begin stealing items. They recognized the culprit from previous robbery incidents, Walker said.

When security officers tried to intervene, the man pulled out a knife and then fled, Walker said.

Patrol officers flooded the area and the suspect was arrested at 8:35 pm a short distance away.

Adam Bustin-Lewis, 23, has been charged with robbery and violating his probation.

According to the provincial court database, Bustin-Lewis has previous convictions for offenses including assault, assault on a peace officer, assault with a weapon, assault by suffocation, burglary, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and miscellaneous charges of breaching bail conditions.

Walker said frontline officers routinely respond to files involving repeat violent offenders.

“These incidents demonstrate the level of violence that criminals like Mr. Bustin-Lewis are willing to use to commit crimes within our community,” he said.

“These crimes have lasting emotional and sometimes physical impacts on victims who are subjected to this level of violence.”
