Creepy urban legends from every US state

Every country, state and city has its own urban legends known to residents and fans of the paranormal. Some are clear attempts to explain mysterious phenomena or tragedies, while others are passed down due to humans’ fascination with the dark and macabre.

Some areas have capitalized on local urban legends to attract tourists and boost local economies. In the West Virginia town of Point Pleasant, for example, the legend of the Mothman is an integral part of the community. The Mothman Festival It takes place every September and includes guest speakers, a street fair, bus tours, live music, food trucks and more. There’s even a Mothman museum.

It’s not for nothing. The Main Street Point Pleasant organization said River Cities Grandstand and Registry which estimates that the festival contributes around $2 million to the city’s economy each year.
