Broken Bow woman sentenced to prison for child abuse

IDABEL, Okla. (KXII) – A Broken Bow woman was sentenced to four years in prison on a child abuse charge.

According to federal prosecutors, Kaira Wilson, 35, was found guilty by a federal jury in a trial in January 2024.

Investigators said that in March 2020, police responded to a 911 call at an Idabel residence and discovered an unresponsive 6-month-old baby.

EMS responders began life-saving measures and took the baby to the hospital. Medical professionals were able to resuscitate and stabilize the baby, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The infant suffered injuries consistent with non-accidental trauma, including a subdural hematoma, extensive retinal hemorrhages, and loss of vision in one eye.

Prosecutors said an investigation revealed that prior to the 911 call, a witness at the residence saw Wilson throw the baby against a wall.

Wilson will not be eligible for parole.
