Papillion man to be sentenced for 2023 attack on former US senator

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) – Papillion man accused of assault a former US senator on a subway jogging track will appear in court Thursday morning.

Dominic Henton, 26, will face sentencing for the attack on former Arizona Sen. Martha McSally in 2023.

McSally is expected to give a statement via Zoom in Pottawattamie County District Court on Thursday.

In November 2023, Henton was accused with one count of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, a misdemeanor.

He appeared in Douglas County Courthouse and waived extradition to Pottawattamie County. His hearing lasted less than two minutes.

Dominic Henton, 25, of Papillion, appeared in Douglas County Court on Tuesday and waived extradition.

Shortly after the incident, McSally posted a video on social media. saying a man grabbed her “in a bear hug” and then molested and fondled her until she fought him. She said she threw her water bottle at him and chased him into the brush, where he hid before running away.

“I’m fine. “I was fighting, fleeing or freezing and I chose to fight,” she said in an Instagram post.

Henton was arrested after Omaha police responded to a welfare check call he made to dispatchers.

His bail was set at $10,000.
