Case against Greek couple accused of shooting arrow at dog dismissed

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) – The case against two people who allegedly shot a dog with a crossbow in Greece has been dismissed.

In July 2023, Bogart’s owner was taking him for a walk when he was hit by a crossbow. He was taken to an animal hospital and urgent care in Niagara Falls. the dog died a month later.

James Smith, 56, and Linnette Torres, 45, were charged with Hit the dog with an arrow. while practicing target shooting. Originally, both were charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and Torres was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief.

However, the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed Thursday that the judge had dismissed the case against Smith and Torres. It has not been confirmed why, but investigators believed the suspects did not shoot the dog on purpose.

The district attorney’s office told News 8 it plans to appeal the decision.
