Lennon Miller: Motherwell teenager’s rise from ‘devastating’ pain to rising Scotland star

That gallus approach is attracting attention. Even in the 3-0 loss to Celtic last Sunday, Miller’s all-round game stood out, hitting the woodwork twice.

A clip then circulated of veteran broadcaster Martin Tyler waxing lyrical about the teenager, while former Scotland striker Kris Boyd suggested the midfielder is now out of reach for both Old Firm clubs.

Experienced Motherwell duo Andy Halliday and Paul McGinn have also said that Miller, who finished Wednesday’s win at Tannadice with the captain’s armband, is the best youngster they have ever played with.

When you consider that Halliday trained with a teenage Billy Gilmour at Rangers, plus McGinn’s younger brother is Aston Villa captain John, the comments are “obviously a great honour” for Miller.

But with the help of his father Lee, now a barber and good at it, according to his son, the young man can control things, leaving aside the applause and speculation.

A Scottish under-21 international, much of the conversation surrounding the teenager has been whether he is capable of making the step up to the senior team.

His father believes he is “good enough” now, while Miller says “I’ll be ready” when the call comes.

Still, it is somewhat touching that his first appearance at the national stadium comes for the club to which he has dedicated more than half his life.

The Fir Park club travel to Hampden knowing that a win against a struggling Rangers team would leave them one win away from their first major honor in 33 years.

Miller reckons Motherwell will still be “a big underdog” in the tie, but the teenager is looking for the chance to become, along with his team-mates, a club legend.

“We just have to go out and enjoy it,” he says. “That’s all we can do, we know it’s a huge game for everyone involved.

“And we know we have the opportunity to make history – that’s the main goal.”
