Treasury must compensate Scotland for tax rise – Shona Robinson

Robinson told BBC Radio’s Good Morning Scotland that the tax rise could cost the Scottish Government up to £500m.

“As the Scottish public sector is larger, we need to see it fully covered,” he added.

“We will seek urgent clarity on this matter.”

Around 600,000 people are employed in Scotland’s public sector, representing 22% of the total workforce, compared to approximately 17% in the UK as a whole.

This has fueled concerns at Holyrood that Scotland could be short-changed if compensation for the National Insurance increase is not proportional to its public sector.

Reeves was previously asked about concerns the tax rise could cost the Scottish Government £500m.
