Larimer County man sentenced for distributing fentanyl that killed Lyon man in 2023

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – A man in Larimer County was sentenced after being found guilty of distributing fentanyl, which resulted in the death of one man.

Jason Wahlstrom was sentenced to 20 years in prison. The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said he pleaded guilty to unlawful distribution of fentanyl resulting in death, which is a class one drug felony.

The sheriff’s office said Wahlstrom was charged after trafficking the deadly fentanyl that killed a 27-year-old Lyons man. In October 2023, a woman called 9-1-1 after finding a family member unconscious in her home. Emergency services arrived and found the man dead.

The Larimer County coroner ruled the 27-year-old man’s death accidental due to fentanyl toxicity.

The sentence was imposed under a state law passed in 2022. The law called for harsher sentences for trafficking fentanyl when it results in the death of another person.
