Parking dispute involved someone with a knife, reports say

Police are investigating reports of a “nine-person fight” following a parking dispute.

News of the fight emerged when Cambridgeshire Police released a record of 999 calls its control room received between 4pm and 9pm BST on Friday.

It happened in Peterborough shortly before 6.30pm that day, and a caller reported seeing someone with a knife.

Police indicated they suspected a scuffle and said an investigation was underway.

‘Dancing on a highway’

During the five-hour 999 “postathon,” call handlers received 227 calls.

One said an ex-partner was “outside her house with cans of petrol”, while another reported a man “dancing” on a motorway.

In another batch of calls, police said one concerned someone’s missing Amazon package, while another reported that someone had put children’s toys and pillows on top of their container.

Twenty calls were silent and five are believed to have been “pocket” calls.

In response to several of Friday’s calls, police said:

  • The man who was “dancing” on a highway was “taken to a safe place” by officers.
  • An investigation into a former partner’s report of gas canisters was “ongoing.” Police said a “suspect” had left the area and that officers “spoke with the “victim.”
  • A report of a “deliberate arson” at Peterborough Prison was being “investigated”.
  • The man worried about his lost Amazon package had been “advised to call 101”, a non-emergency number.

Superintendent Nick Church: said: “We often hear about officers on the frontline, but rarely do we hear about the hard work and resilience of our control room staff, who are available 24 hours a day to help the public. when you need police.” attendance.

“This ‘post-thon’ was important to raise awareness of the volume of calls we received, but also to demonstrate the variety and complexity of some of the incidents we dealt with.”
