Las Vegas man confesses to stabbing on RTC bus

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas man called police and admitted to stabbing someone on an RTC bus, a Metro arrest report shows.

FOX5 obtained an arrest report from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for Maurice Carroll “Smith.” Carroll is accused of a stabbing at Eastern and Stewart avenues the night of Oct. 22.

According to interviews with witnesses and surveillance videos, a group of three men boarded an RTC bus.

The arrest report says they were intoxicated and may have used racial slurs in English and Spanish. Carroll was angry about their conversation.

Police said Carroll confronted the group and told them to stop talking. One of the men stood up and began arguing with Carroll.

The fight became physical. The bus driver would stop and open the doors.

At one point during the fight, Carroll thought the man was pulling a gun out of his backpack. He told police he used a knife to stab the man twice.

After the stabbing, Carroll exited the bus, dropped the knife next to a nearby bush and called police.

In the call to dispatch, Carroll told police he was “attacked” by three men who were calling him racial slurs.

When officers arrived and questioned Carroll, he said the stabbing was self-defense and explained where he dropped the gun.

During the investigation, police found no weapons on the victim. First responders arrived and transported the man to UMC, where he underwent emergency surgery and is recovering.

Following LVMPD investigation, officers arrested Carroll on three counts of assault and attempted murder. According to court records, he is due in court on November 11 at 9 a.m.
