Portland City Council passes resolution to support Major League Baseball effort

The Portland City Council on Wednesday declared its support for efforts to bring Major League Baseball to the Pink City.

Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution solidifying their support for the Portland Diamond Project and the group’s plan to build a new stadium at Zidell Yards on the South Waterfront.

Mayor Ted Wheeler said the resolution directs staff to work with the project to put in place the “necessary pieces” to make the city of Portland the obvious choice for an expansion baseball team.

The mayor formally declared his support for the project during his State of the City address last week and asked the City Council to approve the resolution.
