Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence on developing the Jaguars roster ahead of the trade deadline

“Walker took every snap, every snap during the week,” Pederson said. “We felt it was best for the five offensive linemen – actually the eight that were going to suit up for that game – that once Cam was cleared he would come in as a backup tackle.”

Little has started 18 games in three seasons for the Jaguars, starting the last three games at left tackle in 2022 when Robinson was injured and starting there when Robinson was suspended four games to begin the 2023 season. He has also played right tackle and guard for his NFL career, with 14 starts at left tackle and four at guard.

“It’s obviously a great opportunity to go out and be able to play some meaningful football against the really good teams ahead of us,” Little said. “It’s exciting and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”

Pederson said Little seems more comfortable at tackle than guard.

“That spatial element when playing tackle is one thing,” Pederson said. “Guards, they don’t necessarily have to move as far and there are a lot more bodies around them. His size is good at guard, but I think he’s better suited personally as a tackle.”

Pederson and Lawrence spoke Wednesday about having great confidence in Little, and Pederson said, “We feel very good about him.”

“He’s been here,” Pederson said. “He’s played a lot of roles for us. He’s played inside and outside. He’s played both tackle positions. I think after the first snap of the game (against the Packers), he really adjusted to some nice things and we’ve got a lot of confidence to move forward.

“There’s a lot of season left, but it’s a great opportunity for him to take advantage of. It would just be a great opportunity and we’d see where he goes from there.”

Lawrence said: “Walker has done a great job. I’m excited for this opportunity for him. He’s played very well when he’s had opportunities. He’s been put in tough situations and he’s had to play a lot of different positions. I’ve been prepared for his opportunities and that’s not easy to do when you’re not the full-time type.

“We have all the faith in the world in Walker and I’m excited for him.”

Also Wednesday, Pederson said veteran Cole Van Lanen will likely be the “swing tackle of the future.” Van Lanen, who entered the roster with a strong training camp and preseason, has been inactive for the first eight games of the season.
