CT Yankees fan banned from World Series game after grabbing Mookie Betts’ glove

(WFSB) – Two Yankees fans are banned from tonight’s World Series game after they aggressively interfered with Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts last night.

The fan who grabbed Betts’ glove after making a catch is from Connecticut.

Austin Capobianco is a Branford subscriber.

He knocked the ball out of Betts’ glove while his friend grabbed Betts’ hand.

Capobianco and his friend were ejected from Yankee Stadium for egregious and unacceptable physical contact with Betts.

They are now excluded from tonight’s fifth game.

Meanwhile, Yankees fans in Connecticut are taking the train to the game. It’s another game where New York wins or goes home.

No team has ever come back from a three-game deficit to win the World Series.

“It was atrocious but, at the same time, it could have been the spark the Yankees needed. The fans show that they are willing to take risks to get some energy. We’ll see. I have never seen anything like it,” said Cristian Peña, New Haven.

“There’s a line you probably shouldn’t cross between being a passionate fan and getting involved in the game and potentially injuring a player, no matter what team they play for,” said Irving Cortes, Hartford.

The Bronx Bombers Bats came to life in game four with Anthony Volpe’s grand slam that sparked the Yankees.

Tonight is another win or go home game against the Dodgers.

“I think we have to ride the wave. Tonight we have the right man on the mound. Gerrit Cole is coming in,” Cortés said.

“I hope we can use the energy and take advantage of the night before,” Peña added.

Last night’s moment of madness brings back memories of the infamous Steve Bartman incident, one of the most controversial in baseball postseason history.

Quinnipiac journalism professor Nick Pietruszkiewicz was at Wrigley Field the night Bartman interfered with a foul ball, potentially hurting the Cubs’ chances of winning the pennant.

“The wildest thing I’ve ever seen in my life was Steve Bartman, and yeah, last night reminded me of that. I think there is a significant difference,” Pietruszkiewicz said. “He was just a guy in the game looking for a foul ball. “These two guys, this was no accident.”

The first launch is scheduled for 8:08 p.m.

If the Yankees survive, they will travel to Los Angeles for Game 6 on Friday.

Yankee Stadium will have more than 45,000 fans there, but Austin Capobianco will not be in the building.
