Arrest made after ‘blacklist’ threat targeted students at Cobb high schools, district says

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – An arrest has been made after a “hit list” threat was made on social media targeting students at two Cobb County high schools, according to the school district.

A Cobb County Schools spokesperson said the district learned of the social media threat, which named students at Pope and Walton high schools, through multiple tips.

“Following a thorough police investigation, in coordination with the GBI, the suspect has been arrested for this illegal and disruptive behavior,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

The district said that since Deadly shooting on September 4 at Apalachee High SchoolMore than 75 false threats have been reported to the school system.

“While they have been investigated and have not been determined to be credible threats, they create anxiety for students and parents and cost significant staff and police time,” the district spokesperson said. “We continue to ask students and parents to use the district information line report concerns, as the best and quickest way to support the safety of your children.”

The school district did not identify the person arrested or say if the suspect was a student.
