The body found in the San Tan Valley is believed to be that of a kidnapped woman; relative arrested

SAN TAN VALLEY, AZ (AZ Family) — The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office says a woman’s body was discovered in a farm field in San Tan Valley Wednesday morning, and deputies say a teenage relative is the prime suspect.

Details are limited, but the sheriff’s office says a jogger called 911 after seeing the body west of Gantzel Road and south of Skyline Drive around 9 a.m. Less than 10 minutes later, emergency operators received a call about a kidnapping at a home in Vineyard Plains Unit.

Officers responded and determined that the body was related to the kidnapping call made that same hour. The victim has not yet been identified.

Authorities say an 18-year-old man, a relative of the home where the kidnapping occurred, is the main suspect. His name has not yet been revealed.

Officers said they found him with self-inflicted wounds and rushed him to a nearby hospital. He will be booked into the Pinal County Jail once he receives treatment for his injuries.

No further information has been released, but authorities say both scenes are active at this time as investigators work to piece together what led to the woman’s death and determine a possible motive.
