Man accused of breaking into and hiding inside Jennings liquor store

STREET. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A man was charged Friday after police found him hiding in the bathroom of a business he broke into in Jennings.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, the incident occurred Friday at the Park N Shop liquor store, located in the 8800 block of Jennings Station Road.

Police say the man, Nicholas Williams, 38, was able to get into the liquor store after throwing a rock-like object through the front window, setting off the burglar alarm.

When police responded to the scene, they said they saw the back door of the business open and close again. According to police, Williams barricaded himself inside the business, prompting police to force entry. When police entered, they found Williams hiding behind the closed bathroom door, bleeding from his head and hand.

According to police, surveillance cameras showed Williams taking money from the register and carrying a black trash bag. Police say they found the money inside Williams’ pockets, covered in blood from his wounds. Police also found the trash bag near the exit door, which contained 38 packs of cigarettes, lighters and clothing.

Police say Williams stole items exceeding the value of $150. Police also said the value to replace the glass after Williams broke in would exceed $750.

The St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office charged Williams with first-degree property damage, second-degree burglary and larceny. Williams is being held on $50,000 cash only, with no 10% bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 4 for a bail reduction hearing.
