Anthony Richardson sent warning by Colts teammate after shock benching

Now-benched Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has been sent a stern warning by veteran teammate Zaire Franklin a few days after the signal caller was officially no longer running the offense.

Joe Flacco was named the Colts starter ‘going forward’, by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday.

The switch comes after Richardson caused outrage during Sunday’s game against the Texans when he appeared to ‘tap out’ on a key third-and-goal in the third quarter, later telling reporters that he was tired.

Franklin shared a united front with Richardson, while also making sure to share his thoughts on what he saw as a massive mistake.

‘We were standing right there actually watching,’ Franklin said. ‘I’m here to bump for young bull, let me just say that. He did throw a big-a** d-lineman off his back. ‘He does that s*** all the time.’

‘He said “I ain’t going to lie, I was tried.” Lie, just lie. Please help me. Lie, like you stole something.’

Franklin added he has not had the chance to speak with Richardson about the situation yet, but said that his ‘tired’ response is not the ideal sentiment to state in front of the media.

‘It’s just not the response you can give as a leader on the team after a situation,’ Franklin continued. ‘It’s just not how you want to go about it.’

Franklin has been with the Colts since 2018 and has only played for Indianapolis in his NFL career.

Richardson was the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft as the third quarterback taken behind Bryce Young and CJ Stroud.

Richardson’s benching means two of those three have been demoted this season, with Young being sent to second-string in favor of Andy Dalton last month. Young will resume starting duties for the one-win Panthers on Sunday.
