Ajayi alleges APC plans to deploy Amotekun for Ondo elections | The Guardian Nigeria News

The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ondo State governorship election, Agboola Ajayi, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) plans to deploy Amotekun Corps operatives for the elections.

According to the PDP candidate, the appointment of Amotekun Corps Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, as Chairman of the Security Committee of the APC campaign council, was a plot to use officers as thugs during the elections.

While describing the alleged appointment of the Amotekun Corps to the sub-committee of the campaign council as abuse of power, the Agboola Ajayi Campaign Organisation, in a statement issued by Ayo Fadaka, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, stated that the development will have consequences .

The opposition party, which vowed to resist any attempt to drag the Amotekun Corps into the elections, claimed that hoodlums are currently being camped to cause chaos during the elections.

“We are also aware that “barracks” for hoodlums have been opened across the state, and we will provide the police and other security agencies with the addresses of hotels and facilities being used for this purpose.

“We are also aware of APC’s plans to cause security problems in several local governments where they “say” they will use their primary election model. Again, we are also aware of plans to capture some members of our party using fake police; All these ridiculous plans are a clear invitation to crisis and, despite everything, they will not mitigate the failure of APC in the elections.”

Meanwhile, the ruling party has described the PDP gubernatorial candidate’s allegations as false, emphasizing that Commander Amotekun was never appointed as a member of any of the party’s campaign council committees.

APC, in a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, who described the allegations as serious, said: “These allegations are nothing but a figment of the imagination of the PDP. Firstly, the PDP falsely claimed that Chief Tunji Adeleye, Commander of the Amotekun Corps, had been appointed Chairman of the APC Security Committee. This is a blatant lie.

“The Amotekun Corps is a professional body dedicated to protecting the people, not participating in politics. Furthermore, we do not even have a security committee in the Aiyedatiwa Campaign Council.

“The PDP’s accusations of violence, thuggery and plans to cause security threats are also baseless. In fact, it is the PDP that has been crying wolf, trying to distract from its own lack of preparation for the elections. We urge security agencies to investigate these allegations and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Our campaign is focused on issues, not misinformation. We are committed to working for the people, not spreading false accusations. The PDP should join us in promoting a peaceful, issue-based campaign.

“We call on the good people of Ondo State to ignore the baseless allegations of the PDP and focus on the real issues affecting their lives. Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration has delivered on its promises and we are committed to continuing this progress.

“Let us work together to ensure free, fair and credible elections in Ondo State. We are confident that our issue-based campaign, coupled with Governor Aiyedatiwa’s excellent record, will bring us victory at the polls.

“We urge all stakeholders, including security agencies, to remain vigilant and avoid any attempt to disrupt the electoral process. Let us work together to ensure a peaceful and successful election in Ondo State.”
