Governor Ron DeSantis campaigns against abortion amendment

NAPLES, Fla. — With election days left, Governor Ron DeSantis is touring Florida, sharing his views on Amendment 4. Voters will soon decide whether or not Florida keeps its six-week abortion ban.

“This amendment says that non-doctors can give the green light (for abortion) up to the moment of birth,” said Governor DeSantis.

The amendment reads: “No law shall prohibit, penalize, delay, or restrict abortion before viability or when necessary to protect the health of the patient, as determined by the patient’s health care provider.”

Gov. DeSantis calls the amendment’s language vague and says it implies a doctor does not have to be part of the process.

Dr. Anna García is an obstetrician and gynecologist at Memorial Health Care System and spoke at the conference.

“As the law stands in Florida, a woman seeking an abortion for any reason up to 6 weeks can simply go to a doctor’s office willing to perform the abortion and get the care she requests,” she said. .

We reach out to Floridians who protect freedom. The political group says Governor DeSantis is overstepping his power by working against Amendment 4. Lauren Brenzel, who is campaigning for its passage, says the ban goes into effect before most women know who are pregnant.

“We know that in states where abortion bans are as extreme as in Florida we see an increase in maternal mortality, in Georgia, Amber Thurman died due to an abortion ban, we have seen it in Florida, women like Anya Cook they almost lost their lives, women like Deborah Dorbert gave birth to children who died in their arms,” Brenzel said.

If you vote yes, you are supporting abortion rights in Florida.

A “No” vote will keep Florida’s six-week abortion plan in place.
