Former GOP firebrand: Nikki Haley’s level-headed whitewashing of Trump is ‘nonsense’

A former Republican lawmaker called Nikki Haley’s defense of former President Donald Trump nonsense.

Fox News’ Bret Baier asked Haley Tuesday night whether he believed Trump was a threat to democracy, dangerous or unhinged. She dodged the question and instead said that while she doesn’t agree with the former president’s “style,” she supports him for his policies.

“You don’t have to agree with his style, his style and his words are not always the best. But I’m choosing his policies over personality,” Haley said Tuesday.

But former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.), who ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2020, criticized Haley for not saying Trump was dangerous.

“This is nonsense. Shame on you @NikkiHaley. I know you know Trump is a threat to democracy, he’s dangerous and unhinged. How do I know you know all this? Because you said all this when you were running against him,” he wrote. Walsh on X.

Haley ran against Trump in the 2024 Republican primary, where she frequently attacked him and labeled him as “unhinged.”

“The problem now is that he is not the same person he was in 2016,” he said. in a February interview with NBC’s “Today” co-anchor Craig Melvin. “He is deranged; “He’s more diminished than he was, just like Joe Biden is more diminished than he was.”

Haley dropped out of the race in March and has since voiced her support for Trump as the Republican presidential candidate.

Walsh is a frequent critic of the former president and said Wednesday that Trump is “attacking the very foundation of our democracy.” I was responding to a Truth Social post by Trump that accused Pennsylvania of cheating in the 2024 elections without providing any evidence.

“Nothing else matters except this. Nothing else. No one who votes for Trump can defend this. Nobody. He’s lying about our elections. Again. It is attacking the very foundations of our democracy. Again. He is inciting violence. Again. “He is a traitor to this country,” Walsh wrote.

The race between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris continues neck and neck with less than a week left until election day. Most national polls show the candidates in a close race, but the Electoral College winner will depend on who wins the seven battleground states.
