Shanquella Robinson’s Family Files Lawsuit Against Friends 2 Years After Her Death

Shanquella RobinsonHer family wants justice two years after her mysterious death in Mexico.

Shanquella, 25, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died on October 29, 2022, while vacationing in Cabo San Luca with six others, who have since been nicknamed “The Cabo Six.”

His traveling companions have reportedly insisted that he died of alcohol poisoning, but an autopsy conducted by Mexican authorities showed that his death was caused by violence, specifically, “atlas and spinal cord dislocation,” PEOPLE previously reported.

As questions about her death remain unanswered two years later, Shanquella’s mother, Sallamondra Robinson, filed a lawsuit against “The Corporal Six” as well as the United States Department of State and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). ), according to media including WBTV, ABC News and The Charlotte Observer.

According to documents published by WBTV, Sallamondra is seeking compensation of more than $25,000 from each of the six people Shanquella was traveling with at the time. The documents, filed in Mecklenburg County Superior Court on Friday, Oct. 25, indicated that the plaintiff is seeking damages for a variety of reasons, including assault, civil conspiracy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Sallamondra also seeks damages of more than $25,000 from the U.S. Department of State and the FBI, according to the lawsuit.

“We need justice for Shanquella Robinson,” Shanquella’s mother said, urging people to “intervene.”

“It’s been two years and there’s no reason anyone hasn’t been arrested yet,” he added.

Lawyer Sue-Ann said during the conference: “The lack of justice serves as a painful, painful reminder of the vulnerabilities that people, especially young black women, face when they seek adventure in unknown places with unknown faces,” adding: ” It is “It is our responsibility to ensure that such tragedies do not go unanswered.”

When PEOPLE reached out to the FBI for comment, the department shared that its “standard practice is to decline to comment on pending litigation.”

The lawsuit comes after Shanquella family attorneys Ben Crump and Sue-Ann sent a letter to the president. joe biden asking him to pressure authorities to make an arrest in March 2023.

The following month, the US Department of Justice said in a press release that based on the available evidence, the authorities “have concluded that Federal charges cannot be filed.” The statement at the time stated that a separate autopsy had been performed in the US, but did not go into detail about its results.

Weeks after Shanquella’s death, a violent and disturbing video began circulating online showing her being beaten in what appeared to be the luxury villa where she was vacationing when she died.

Mexican authorities classified her death as feminicide, gender-based murder and hate crime in November 2022 and Mexican authorities issued an arrest warrant for one of Shanquella’s traveling companions. U.S. authorities did not name the person.

While talking to people In April last year, Shanquella’s mother, Sallamondra, said she received a phone call from her daughter hours before her death.

“She said everyone was having fun and I told her I would talk to her tomorrow,” Sallamondra said. “And I never spoke to my daughter again.”
