Cleveland man falls from truck and is run over in Vermilion Township

A 46-year-old Cleveland man was seriously injured Oct. 29 when he fell from a truck and was struck by the vehicle in Vermilion Township, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Sandusky Post.

Vermilion Township EMS paramedics transported the man to Firelands Hospital. He was later transported by medical helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, according to the release.

At 10:35 pm on Route 6 between Hahn and Frailey roads in Vermilion Township, a 50-year-old Huron man was driving a 1995 Dodge Ram with a malfunctioning passenger side door when he left the Patio Tavern Bar in east direction. according to the statement.

The Cleveland man, who was a passenger, was not wearing a seat belt and fell out of the Dodge as it entered the highway, according to the release.

The vehicle passed over the Cleveland man before stopping on the right side of the road, according to the release.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, Vermilion Township EMS and L&M Towing.

The crash remains under investigation and alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor, according to the release.
