Democrats make ‘final pitch’ to influence state voters in tied race

FIRST ON FOX – The Democratic National Committee on Wednesday launched a series of full-page ad buys in 25 newspapers as part of the party’s effort to reach voters in the heart of critical battleground states and make its final case against Donald Trump.

The ad buys were shared exclusively with Fox News Digital and consist of full pages in 25 suburban and exurban newspapers across the country.

They include five newspapers each in the states of pennsylvaniaMichigan and Georgia; four newspapers in Wisconsin; and six other newspapers spread across cities in North Carolina, Arizona and Nevada.

The ads are an effort to hammer home what Democrats said in an interview is their latest and “most important” message to voters before Election Day, that Donald Trump is “unhinged, unstable” and “unfit to lead” in a second term.

Roger Lau, deputy executive director of the Democratic National Committee, told Fox News that the ads seek to communicate to voters “that this is a clear choice between Donald Trump, his message of chaos, retribution, revenge, division and the Democratic message; that of Kamala Harris.” “The message is that she will be president for all Americans. She is someone who will build an economy of opportunity for all of us and show us a new path forward.”

They take aim at what the Democratic National Committee characterized as Trump’s “chaotic and reckless record” as well as his “unchecked pursuit of power,” which they will argue he will seek to further if he is re-elected for a second term in November.

“In a presidential race that will be decided by very narrow margins, the paid media campaign is designed to reach voters who could be key to deciding the outcome of the most important election of our lives,” said the president of the National Committee Democrat, Jaime Harrison, in a statement. .

The location of the selected newspapers also provides information on parts of the map Democrats consider the final stretch until Election Day more competitive.

Altogether, a total of 93 electoral votes are at stake in the seven battleground states, votes that the DNC said it is willing to fight hard for in a close election to help elect Harris.

Lau told Fox News that the newspapers were chosen specifically to appeal to voters beyond the traditional. major media markets in big cities.

“With how close the race is and how much is at stake, we want to make sure we reach the suburbs and outskirts as well,” Lau said. “Places like Macomb County in Michigan, La Crosse in Wisconsin (and) Yuma in Arizona.

“These are places where we are not going to give ground.”

But with less than a week until the election, it’s unclear how many undecided voters in key swing states could be swayed, especially in areas where the Trump and Harris campaigns have already exhausted significant resources and get-out-the-vote initiatives designed to boost the vote. voter registration and attract candidates in competitive districts.

That’s part of the reason the Democratic National Committee decided to run paid ads in print newspapers, he said, in a final attempt to appeal to few voters through a trusted local news source.

The news comes later. several major media outlets, including the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post and USA Today announced they will not endorse any presidential candidate in the 2023 election, sparking outrage and a wave of cancellations from some readers.

“We always knew this was going to be a close race,” Lau said. “We always knew that these seven battlefields would reach the final stretch. And I feel that the infrastructure that we have built, the energy and the enthusiasm that we have at our base, will help us overcome the limit.”

Combined with Harris’ final remarks to voters on the Ellipse in Washington, D.C.., on Tuesday night, Lau said: “I think it will be a strong closing argument that will ultimately push us across the finish line.”
