Governor Sanwo-Olu speaks on lawsuit against EFCC for alleged arrest and prosecution

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has denied an alleged lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over a planned arrest and prosecution after his term expires.

Lawal Pedro, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Lagos State, disclosed this in a statement released on Tuesday by Sanwo-Olu’s spokesperson, Gboyega Akosile.

His clarification comes amid a report that Sanwo-Olu’s lawyer filed fundamental rights application suit against EFCC before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

However, the Lagos Attorney General, Pedro, clarified that there was no time for Governor Sanwo-Olu to ask any lawyer to file a suit on his behalf on the issue.

“We need to clarify that Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu did not, at any time, sue or direct any lawyer to file a suit on his behalf in relation to the above matter.

“Furthermore, it is false that the Governor, who enjoys the immunity conferred on him by the Constitution and has almost three years ahead of him, informs any lawyer about this type of matter.

“As far as I know, my investigation confirmed that the EFCC is not investigating the governor and never invited or threatened to arrest any member of his staff, domestic or otherwise.

“We are currently investigating how the case arose without our knowledge,” he said.

Meanwhile, the EFCC has not issued any statement on the matter at the time of filing this report.
