Two clear cases of city men aged 15 to 20 | News, sports, jobs

WARREN — A city man was sentenced to 15 to 20 years in prison after being found guilty on charges of aggravated robbery, felonious assault and burglary.

The charges against Craig S. Ison Jr., 42, of Orchard Court NE, stem from two incidents.

During a hearing Tuesday before Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Ronald J. Rice, Ison said just two words: “I’m sorry.”

According to prosecutors and a police report, Ison assaulted and robbed a 72-year-old woman on July 11 in the 100 block of Main Avenue SW in downtown Warren. The victim, an employee of a law firm inside the Huntington Bank building, was attacked shortly before 11 a.m. as she entered the building.

Prosecutors said Ison pushed the woman through a glass display case, cut off her head and punched her repeatedly while she was on the ground. The woman gave him cash to stop the attack. When police arrested Ison, they recovered $24 stained with what appeared to be blood, according to police. The victim at trial identified Ison as her attacker and also detailed the injuries she suffered to her head and back.

The trespassing charge relates to an April 7 incident at a home on Tod Avenue SW. During that incident, prosecutors said Ison was discovered in the living room with one hand down his pants and the other on a 4-year-old girl. The boy’s mother and grandmother forced him from the home, according to prosecutors and a police report.

Both incidents were tried together, resulting in Ison’s conviction on all charges.

Deputy Prosecutor Michael Burnett said the case, which lasted 60 days from indictment to sentencing, should set the standard for the swift handling of crimes.

“We must aggressively prosecute people like this who commit extreme acts of violence. “Not only to punish these criminals, but also to send a message to others that those who victimize the citizens of Trumbull County will face swift and severe justice.” said.
