US says Israel still not doing enough to help Palestinians in Gaza

UNITED NATIONS: The United States rejects “any Israeli effort to starve Palestinians in Jabalia or anywhere else” in the Gaza Strip, US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda said Tuesday (Oct. 29) Thomas-Greenfield.

“Israel’s words must be accompanied by actions on the ground. Right now, that is not happening. This must change immediately,” he told the UN Security Council.

The United States told ally Israel in an Oct. 13 letter that it must take steps within 30 days to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza or face possible restrictions on U.S. military aid.

Israel began a wide-ranging military offensive in northern Gaza earlier this month. Thomas-Greenfield said on October 16 that Washington was watching to ensure that Israel’s actions on the ground demonstrate that it does not have a “famine policy” in the north.

On Monday, the Palestinian Civil Emergency Service said around 100,000 people were isolated in Jabalia, Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza, without medical or food supplies. Reuters could not independently verify the number.
