Evacuations ordered for Osage County area south of Pawhuska as winds spread wildfires

Residents in the area between Skyline Drive to the south and LB May Drive to the north, Lynn Avenue to the east and Farrell Avenue to the west were told to evacuate on Tuesday, October 29 due to a wildfire in the area.

He National Weather Service in Tulsa issued a fire warning at the request of Oklahoma Forest Services for northeastern Osage County.

“The fire that has been burning south of Pawhuska has become increasingly dangerous and will continue to spread north at 2 mph. Area affected: Near and just south of Pawhuska, especially between Farrell Avenue to Lynn and Skyline to LB May “Additional information: Smoke and fire will pose a threat to life and property. Additionally, aircraft including an airstrike, a large air tanker and a helicopter are over the fire,” the NWS said.

Pawhuska City Manager Jerry Eubanks, who was involved in extinguishing the fire, said via text message shortly after 5:30 p.m. that, to his knowledge, there had been no casualties.

“It’s getting better, but it’s still complicated,” Eubanks said when asked about progress in containing the fire. He said efforts were being made to keep the fire south of LB May Drive, which is the truck route under the town of Pawhuska.

“That is our goal and the posture that the command has taken,” Eubanks said.
