Andrew Dunn announces his resignation from the Iowa City Council

Iowa City Council member Andrew Dunn announced Tuesday that he will resign from his position effective Jan. 1, 2025, citing increasing professional obligations to the labor movement over the next year.

“In recent months, my professional obligations within the labor movement have increased significantly. Looking ahead to 2025, I expect these obligations and associated out-of-town travel to increase. I want to ensure that Iowans get the representation they deserve.” Dunn said in a news release Tuesday.

Dunn’s resignation comes after two years in the position and three years before his term expires.

He thanked the community and his colleagues on the council for the opportunity to serve and create a “stronger, more resilient community,” highlighting the work he is most proud of, including investments in unaffordable housing, “underappreciated businesses” and the launch of the new city. Free public transportation program.

“It has been an honor to serve the people of Iowa City and work toward a vision of a community that exemplifies our progressive values ​​of inclusion, sustainability and genuine care for one another,” said Council Member Dunn. “I am proud of the progress we have made together and am confident that the council will continue to build on these achievements.”

“While I am leaving this position, my commitment to Iowa City and its residents remains unwavering. “I look forward to witnessing the continued success of our community and supporting its progress in any way I can.”

The city council will now work with city officials to replace Dunn for the Iowa City District C council seat.
