Flint adds enhanced security measures at city council meetings

FLINT, Mich. (WNEM) – The City of Flint Police Department has announced that in light of recent events at city council meetings, which included the removal of a firearm, security measures are being added enhanced to protect community members and city council procedures.

According to Flint Police Chief Terence Green, an analysis of safety protocols has been implemented and will be used.

Key security measures include increased police presence, police escorts, video surveillance, social media monitoring and enhanced staffing.

Green also noted that city council rules related to meetings and the processes themselves will be improved.

The police chief also urged that if anyone is aware of any personal agenda that could interfere with city council meetings or with community members, to report the information to Flint police.
