Indianapolis Colts icon has stern messages for Anthony Richardson

Indianapolis Colts attacking player Antonio Richardson had a brutal outing against him Houston Texans in a week eight loss fall to 4-4 on the season. While many pundits, analysts and pundits have essentially dismantled Richardson’s bad Sunday afternoonPat McAfee may have been the most vocal of frustrations watching Indianapolis’ offensive struggles at NRG Stadium.

In an episode of The Pat McAfee ShowMcAfee analyzed the play in which Richardson left the game and expressed his feelings.

McAfee said: “I’ve never seen that before. I’ve never seen that in my life from a quarterback.” Multiple talking heads across the NFL have shared reactions similar to McAfee’s. Then he continued:

“An NFL quarterback doesn’t walk out of a game, especially if he can go out and play, that’s part of the position. That’s kind of it. You’re the face of the franchise, as long as you’re there.” By tapping, when you are healthy, what message are you sending to everyone in the building? Everyone in the locker room?

Simply put, Richardson leaving the game for any reason other than an injury that keeps him sidelined is unacceptable in a game as important as week eight against the Texans. It’s also a horrendous look for teammates and coaches looking at their QB. While Indy looked terrible with its passing offense and the receivers had trouble helping Richardson, the team was never completely out of contention to win, falling by just three points. If Richardson and the rest of Shane Steichen’s scheme get an extra play or two, maybe the game will end differently and the Colts will be 5-3 (2-2 divisional).

A final exclamation from McAfee was brief but serious, saying (about Richardson’s actions): “You’ll get yourself fired, brother.”

This will be a difficult week for Richardson as he answers questions about what happened against the Texans. However, the young field general and Indianapolis can’t look back with a Sunday Night Football primetime showdown ahead against the Minnesota Vikings. We’ll see what happens for Indianapolis as they navigate an ocean of drama and headlines while trying to prepare for a tough opponent on the road.
