Horry County homeowner who killed robbery suspect will not be charged, attorney says

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – The homeowner who shot and killed a man accused of breaking into his Longs-area home will not be charged.

This was stated by the 15th Circuit Solicitor, Jimmy Richardson, who added that charges will not be filed “unless the information changes.”

Horry County Police were called shortly after 7:40 pm on October 21 to Monaca Drive in Longs for a report of trespassing.

On the way to the scene, officers were informed by dispatch that the victim and the suspect struggled over a gun, which resulted in the suspect being shot, according to the police report.

Police eventually arrived and found Ryan Surujnauth, 34, bleeding and unconscious, according to the report.

EMS took Surujnauth to the hospital and he died the next day from multiple gunshot wounds.
