Health centers in Panyijiar county run out of medicines

At least 16 health centers across Panyijiar county in Unity state have reported drug shortages.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj over the weekend, county health director Peter Yoak Yap confirmed the shortages that have been experienced over the past three months.

“The 16 health centers have run out of medicines since August. “We hope UNICEF will replenish supplies next week,” he said.

He added that the community suffered from different diseases that could not be treated without medicines.

Yap said UNICEF, in an email communication, had promised medical supplies in the coming days.

John Chuol, a staff member at Nyak PHCC, said all health centers had been out of medicine for months.

He added that the operation of health centers has been seriously hampered by the shortage of medicines.

Chuol called on the national government to intervene to save the many lives that were in danger. He said most health centers were at risk of closing if UNICEF supplies did not arrive soon.

Mary Nyaboth said the Panyijiar community had been in a difficult situation without medical supplies since August.

He said the community could face more deaths if UNICEF delayed supplies further.
