‘The Diplomat’ Season 2, World Series and More New TV

The confusing dynamic between wife and almost ex-husband is almost as complicated as the international quagmire they find themselves in in jolly old England. This season, when the English government suspects that a Russian submarine has carried out a deadly bombing raid on one of Her Majesty’s battleships, the path to the truth leads to the British Prime Minister. Russell’s ambassador is on the case, but the arrival of the scandal-scarred US vice president (a brilliantly deployed Allison Janney) complicates the heroine’s mission and could torpedo her personal ambitions.

What else is at stake this week?

1. The 2024 World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees continues this week. It features many high-priced players, including Dodgers cult hitter Shohei Ohtani and Yankees clutch hitter Juan Soto. The latter’s three-run homer with two outs in the 10th inning secured the victory during the final playoff game against the Cleveland Guardians. The Dodgers and Yankees will meet in the Series for the first time in 43 years. Game 3 will begin at Yankee Stadium tonight at 8:08 pm on Fox, followed by Game 4 on Fox on Tuesday at the same time. Games 5, 6 and 7, if necessary, are scheduled for Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

2. Marten! Marten! Marten! On Wednesday, the Netflix documentary. “Marten” Housewives superstar and ex-con Martha Stewart premieres. Earlier this month, the biopic was the opening night film of the Hamptons International Film Festival. The 83-year-old businesswoman, worth $550 million according to Forbes, lets her hair down in RJ Cutler’s candid documentary told in her own words. Of his time in a minimum-security prison in West Virginia, Stewart says, “Those prosecutors should have been put in a Cuisinart and put on hold.” Among the revelations? Even her ex-husband, editor Andrew Stewart, was shocked to learn (according to the New York Post) that the domestic diva had cheated on him with another man during their marriage. We like our documentaries juicy, just like Martha enjoys her roast chicken.

3. Looking for more sports? Click on USA Networks to see the Breeders Cup World Championship 2024 on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. The last major horse race of the 2024 season, the competition attracts thoroughbreds from around the world for a total of 14 races. California’s Del Mar Racetrack will host the elite event founded in 1984. The Breeders’ Cup continues the next day in the US at 2 pm before heading to NBC for the main event, the Breeders Club Classic, with its $6 million purse, and in the US until it ends at 8 pm Place your bets people.

4. Take a dip in the Adult Swim Toonami pool Saturday at midnight with the anime Girl Power “Invincible fighting girl” airing the next day on Max. Andy (Sydney Mikayla), the young woman of the title, rejects her parents’ wish for her to become an accountant. Instead, she is on a mission to become the best wrestler in a world where wrestling is everything. Actor Keith David narrates the American action comedy presented in 30-minute battles.

5. Executive producer Salma Hayek had a hunch. There was more in the 1989 Latin American international bestseller by Mexican novelist and screenwriter Laura Esquivel, “Like water for chocolate” than what unfolded in Alfonso Arau’s 1992 film. Hayek takes a broader approach in HBO Latino’s six-part adaptation of Esquivel’s star-crossed love story set during the Mexican Revolution. It premieres Sunday at 8 pm and airs on Max. With a touch of magical realism and love for the healing power of cooking, the Spanish adaptation unites Pedro and Tita, whose young love melts when Tita’s iron-willed mother betroths Pedro to her sister Rosaura.
