New event created by teens at Bettendorf Public Library encourages interest in environmentalism and conservation

BETTENDORF, Iowa (KWQC) – A new event created by teens, for teens, will help future leaders foster their interest in environmentalism and conservation, while giving them the opportunity to meet like-minded peers and community organizers .

On Nov. 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Bettendorf Public Library, 2950 Learning Campus Drive, will host the inaugural Teen Environment Summit, according to a news release from event organizers. It is a free event created by the library’s Teen Leadership Committee, which is made up of a group of enthusiastic teens who collaborate with library staff to improve services and programs.

The summit will be held on the second floor of the library, event organizers said. It will be a one-stop shop for teens ages 12 to 18 from across the area who will gain access to volunteer opportunities, explore hobbies and learn about career options.

The Teen Environment Summit will feature local experts from organizations including: iLivehere, a program run by the Scott County Waste Commission, Partners of Scott County Watersheds and the Iowa Wildlife Federation, event organizers said. This event will also include trivia, crafts in the library’s Creation Studio, and a brainstorming session for teens from different schools and environmental clubs to share ideas on how they can help shape the environmental movement in the Quad Cities.
